About this event

Are you a community worker? Has your client's partner threatened to cancel their visa?

Register for our free webinar today to know how to help your client with their safety and legal needs.

This webinar is designed for community workers primarily within the South West Sydney region who provide support for individuals experiencing or at risk of domestic and family violence and who are currently in Australia on a partner visa. These clients are particularly vulnerable, as their abusive partners often threaten to "cancel" their visas if any abuse is reported to the police. The fear of being deported, left destitute, subjected to greater abuse or separated from children leaves these individuals feeling helpless and unable to escape the abusive relationship.

In these cases, it is imperative that community workers are able to consider a situation not just from one perspective but that they understand the delicate balance between the client's different needs.

In this webinar, we will focus on a case study involving a woman with a history of domestic violence and also with young children. We will identify the client's different needs, particularly her safety and visa needs. We will also look at the intersection with family law.

Through this webinar, community workers will be given a clear framework for understanding their client's needs. They will also gain confidence in developing strong referral pathways with services that can assist with these needs.

We will have guest presenters from the Immigration Advice and Rights Centre (IARC) and Legal Aid NSW to discuss visa issues.
